Murata's new plant in Wuxi is completed and is expected to be put into operation next January. The production capacity will be expanded 1.6 times.

On August 8, 2018, the completion ceremony of the new factory of Murata New Energy (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. was held as scheduled. Officials of relevant departments of Wuxi Xinwu District, representatives of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and heads of Murata New Energy (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. attended the ceremony.

The predecessor of Murata New Energy (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. is Sony Electronics (Wuxi) Co., Ltd.  On September 1, 2017, Sony Group's battery business completed the transfer to Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Murata"), and on November 22 of the same year, the name was officially changed to Murata New Energy (Wuxi) Co., Ltd.

As the core of Murata's future new energy business, the new plant is expected to be put into operation in January 2019. It plans to increase its annual production capacity to 132 millionpieces new energy lithium batteries, which will enable Wuxi's battery capacity and output value to expanded by 1.6 times.

As one of the important strategic deployments of Murata's new energy business, the completion of the new plant will further expand Murata's supply of thin and light lithium battery products for smartphones, mobile terminals and power tools. These batteries are mainly used in cameras and tablets, high value-added electronic devices and mobile electronic products such as laptops, electric bicycles, vacuum cleaners, game consoles and power tools.The new energy lithium battery is divided into two typesaccording to its internal structure: a gel (Laminate-type) and a liquid (Metal can-tape). The gel-type lithium ion secondary battery has the advantages of safety, light-weight, compactness and various sizes; while the liquid type lithium ion secondary battery has high output and large capacity.

In the era of rapid growth of the smartphone market, the entire electronic components industry has shared cakes.In the future, the enterprises that have no future vision and countermeasures to open up new market needs will not survive. Murata will expand business from the mobile communication to the automotive, medical and new energy field. In July 2016, after the acquisition of SONY lithium battery business, Murata planned to take the battery business as its core energy business, in order to achieve its future growth and expansion and be prepared to enter the field of new energy future goals.

This year, Murata will celebrate the 74thanniversary of the founding of the company. Murata will further increase R&D investment and constantly enrich the product range, not only in mobile phone, computer, AV equipment and other electronic products market, but also in the fields of automotive, health care, environmental protection and energy.
